Seven Pillars of Wisdom

Hello, I’m Prophet and this is my study of Wisdom.

In the bible it tells us inside of James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” The way we ask God is through prayer, and reading his word to gain an understanding of what wisdom is, first I would like to give us an example of someone asking God for Wisdom 1 Kings 3:5–15

At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. “Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.” Then Solomon awoke—and he realized it had been a dream. He returned to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the Lord’s covenant and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then he gave a feast for all his court.

King Solomon was humble in the eyes of God during this time of his life. He asked God for a heart of good judgment to govern the people and to be able to recognize right from wrong. This showed me that from the start King Solomon respected God and he had a good heart, a pure heart. This is why God gave him Wisdom, and with that wisdom Solomon wrote the book of Proverbs. Which is where our journey begins. Proverbs 9:1 “Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.” This scripture has always stuck out to me and caused me to ponder about Wisdom’s seven pillars. Many times, I thought to myself what are these pillars? Where do we find them? The pillars can be found within the Book of Proverbs.

Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge, of the Holy One is understanding.” This is pillar number one, the fear of God. We must understand that the fear of God is where we all must start. I for one fear God through his wrath(meaning what he can do), respect, and what I fear most is losing God. Now which one I believe God means in the scripture is all because all of them come from it.

Proverbs 4:13: “Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.” This is the 2nd pillar and the reason why is because the others coming afterward add on to it and solidify what we learn. This is very inspiring because the instruction that we have before us is the word of God and the word of God is known as our doctrine. If you know the bible it tells us to watch our life and doctrine closely. But here in this scripture it doesn’t just tell us to do that, it tells us that our doctrine is our life.

Now what could be our third pillar? Well that is Proverbs 1:7: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” God’s wisdom and instruction bring us knowledge. Knowledge of God has to be a pillar because without it you can’t  fear God or attain Wisdom because you do not know God.

The forth pillar is Proverbs 2:6: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” this scripture isn’t to point out knowledge even though it does appear here. The one that we are pointing out here is understanding. Understanding comes from the knowledge we gain from reading and studying the bible. Through us gaining understanding we can apply the knowledge we attain to our life and the situations that we go through. Plus help and save others from the darkness.

Proverbs 2:11:“Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.”  Discretion is pillar 5. Which requires us to make wise decisions and think carefully before we act or speak. The reason why is because we must be considered, patient, and loving.

Proverbs 19:20: “Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.” I love this scripture. It tells us “listen to advice and accept discipline.” This is important in any disciple's life, yes that means all of us. Each of us has someone over us, Brothers mentor brothers and sisters mentor sisters. So that we can be held accountable to the scripture and grow in our relationship with God. Counsel is pillar number 6

And for our final one number seven we have Righteousness Proverbs 8:20: “I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice.”  Righteousness is what is right in the eyes of the Lord. This scripture also informs us that righteousness walks alongside justice and the reason why is because to administer justice you must be able to tell the difference between right and wrong.
